About Javea
Javea is situated halfway between Valencia and Alicante
on the Costa Blanca (see map below).
Golf, tennis and watersports are popular activities
Javea's old quarter
The old quarter of Javea is set back from the coastline, and retains much of its Spanish character, with narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses, dating back to the XVI Century.
The church of Sant Bertomeu in the heart of the old town has an inner wall dating back to 1244, when King Jaime the Conqueror defeated the Moors here. The outside bears the scars of the Spanish Civil War, which took place seven centuries later.
There is a busy daily market selling fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as freshly caught fish in the evening. There is a large market on Thursday morning.
Javea's port
Javea's port is a more tourist-centric area than the old town, with a large choice of more modern restaurants, bars and shops to visit. Javea Port has character and charm; and a stroll down the promenade on a warm summers evening is well worth experiencing.
The marina bustles with private yachts, cruisers and traditional fishing vessels, that land their catches at the port daily.
